Kids in Permaculture & Art

After much work and preparation, the next big phase at Elaringai Permaculture has arrived.

Kirsten has used her vast experience as a childcare educator to develop programmes to introduce children to vegetable gardening, small farm animal care and creative expression. Using the Permaculture Principles as a foundation – Earthcare, Peoplecare, Fair Share, a Landcare approach that children easily understand, a series of after school, weekend and holiday classes have been developed. Initially, it will be for small groups of up to eight children aged between eight and twelve years of age.

Update

It has been a while since our last post. 2018 has been a busy year at Elaringai despite the lack of Posts!

In March/April Kirsten took a month off work and George joined her for a month-long Permablitz. A considerable amount of work was done – the shed was cleared, a new epoxy floor was put down and underneath the new outside awning, recycled pavers were laid.

Later in the year, the new timber deck around the house was finished and considerable progress was made in the construction of the new entertainment area including wood-fired pizza over.

It is now November and the BIG news is that, after more than 15 years, Kirsten has resigned her day job and from January 2019 will be able to focus on developing Elaringai into a learning and demonstration site. Things are about to get very exciting!

George completes his PDC

George spent a fabulous, but exhausting, two weeks with Permaculture Sydney Institute at the beautiful Bandusia Country Retreat. The small group of five participants all got along really well as they dived head first into the vast and fascinating world of Permaculture. Penny Pyatt and the other tutors April Sampson-Kelly (Permaculture Visions) and Peter Brecknock (Allyn River Permaculture) were all inspiring. George can’t wait to apply some of the skills I learned to both our property (One Tree Reach Permaculture) and at Elaringai.
